In pursuit of even skin tone

Skin that is even in tone, colour and texture, as well as free of blemishes, is a beauty ambition which may seem an impossible achievement.

At Ultraceuticals, we can’t promise to wave a magic wand and transform your skin overnight. However, what we can do is provide you with a range of products with scientifically-proven ingredients and claims based on clinical research, which have helped our clients towards clearer, more beautiful skin.

Our Even Skintone Range is at the heart of our offering for people struggling with problem skin. Here, we explain how it works, and how you can incorporate it into your skincare routine.

The importance of exfoliation

Exfoliation forms a vital part of any skincare routine, as it helps to address a whole range of concerns. By clearing away old, dead skin cells, you can unclog pores which can contribute to uneven skin tone, as well as refreshing dull, coarse skin.

While our skin has a natural cycle of shedding old cells to make way for new ones, this process naturally slows as we age, meaning that sometimes our skin needs a little help. When dead cells begin to build up on the surface of our skin, it can lead to dry patches, and a dull, uneven appearance.

In addition to revealing a fresher, more youthful complexion, exfoliation can also play a key role in managing breakouts and acne, both of which can be aggravated by dead cells clogging up our hair follicles and pores. This can result in the production of excess oil, which can trigger blemishes such as blackheads.

Last but not least, regular exfoliation can also help to increase the effectiveness of certain skincare products. This is because the formula can be more easily absorbed into the skin when it doesn’t have to bypass a buildup of old cells.

Mechanical/physical vs. chemical exfoliation

There are two methods of exfoliation – mechanical, and chemical. Mechanical exfoliation involves the use of more abrasive scrubs to physically remove cell buildup, while the latter utilises products with active ingredients that loosens the bond between the surface layer of cells in order to lift them away.

Chemical exfoliants will often contain Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) or Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs). These are ingredients with a range of benefits, from anti-ageing properties to helping to repair sun damage. Comparatively, chemical exfoliants tend to be gentler, and more effective than rubbing your skin with a coarse face cloth or scrub.

Meet the Even Skintone Range

Ultraceuticals’ Even Skintone Range is centred on our highly effective Even Skintone Serum. This liquid chemical exfoliant has been carefully formulated to target the signs of uneven skintone by clearing away dead cells, as well as clarifying and refining the skin’s surface.

Citric and Lactic Acid, both AHAs, work to soften the bonds holding dead skin cells on the skin’s compact surface layer, while also stimulating the skin to produce moisturising Hyaluronic Acid. BHA Salicylic Acid acts upon the cells themselves, dissolving them to decongest your skin for a more even appearance.

Our Even Skintone Serum is available in three different concentrations, from our Mild Serum to the Even Skintone Concentrate, which has the highest levels of ingredients as well as the Salacin for more complex skin concerns. The variation enables the skin to be conditioned for greater concentrations of AHAs and BHAs, as well as brightening Niacinamide and Bearberry Extract to address your skincare needs.
